It is with a great delight that we announce the publishing of a new report on non-militarized countries.
« Non-militariation and the countries without armies : identitifcation criteria and first findings ».
The Aland Island peace institute presents it this way :
« There are at least 26 countries around the world that have chosen to exist without an army. Christophe Barbey from the APRED Participative Institute for the Progress of Peace, offers a thorough mapping of these countries in the new working paper « Non-militarisation : Countries without Armies. Identification Criteria and First Findings. » Starting from the legal and factual criteria for a non-militarised country status, the paper offers a first insight into motives and reasoning for being army-less. Many of the states are very small, often island-states, yet seemingly well off and safe, the author concludes, while opening up this field for more research ».

C’est avec un grand plaisir que nous vous annonçons la publication (en anglais) d’un nouveau rapport sur les pays sans armée, en version Internet. Il est disponible ici ou en annexe.
Il est présenté comme suit par l’Institut de Paix des Iles Åland :
« Il y a au moins 26 pays à travers le monde qui ont choisi d’exister sans avoir une armée. Christophe Barbey de l’APRED, Institut Participative pour le Progrès de la Paix, nous offre une cartographie complète de ces pays dans notre nouveau document de travail « La non-militarisation et les pays sans armées. Critères d’identification et premiers résultats. » A partir des critères juridiques et factuels nécessaire pour identifier un pays ayant le statut informel de pays non-militarisé, le document offre un premier aperçu des motifs et des raisonnements justifiant l’absence ou le refus d’avoir une armée. Ces pays sont petits, souvent insulaires, mais apparemment bien nantis et selon l’auteur plutôt sûrs. Il appelle enfin à plus de recherches scientifique sur leur condition ».
